The best hotel in the world in 2017 is in Yucatan | Forbes

The Prix Versailles 2017 Prize on May 12 chose the Chablé Resort & Spa Hotel, located in Chocholá, Yucatán, as the Best Hotel in the World.

This international architectural prize is awarded by the International Union of Architects in conjunction with UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization), where they award the design in its two aspects: interior and exterior.


The prizes are awarded to four different industries:

  1. Hotels
  2. Restaurants
  3. Stores
  4. Shopping Centers

In addition they are divided in 6 regions around the world:

  1. Africa and West Asia
  2. Central and Northeastern Asia
  3. South and Pacific Asia
  4. Central and South America and the Caribbean
  5. North America
  6. Europe

The best hotel

The luxurious hotel Chablé Resort & Spa was created by Jorge Borja and Paulina Morán, who managed to integrate for the eyes of the world the architecture with the interior design. The creators stood out for their excellence and delicacy when creating a concept of luxury, which led them to take the desired recognition.


The site that is 25 minutes from Merida, highlighted because its 38 suites – a master suite and a presidential – are hidden in the jungle, causing maximum privacy. One of the fundamental factors that stood out in this architecture was that the construction was done on lands of a henequera hacienda, also its main inspiration is the fusion between Mayan culture, in combination with the great colonial houses of the region.

One more fact than it sparkled and helped to become winner to the hotel Chablé Resort & amp; Spa , was that they promoted the local economy producing the highest quality, since they occupied the hands of local craftsmen integrated to old Mayan techniques. A textual example is the coating of its floors and walls.
